snowed in - so draw!

daily melody: Bonobo "Dinosaurs"

Today it decided to be winter. Real winter. At least her in central New York the snow made the executive decision to precipitate; making the roads slick and shitty, my car getting stuck at two opportune moments today, and accumulating at a rapid pace. On a good note, for some reason I've hit a creative surge and have produced two new illustrations tonight!

I went through my supplies of sharpies and had to use two of my roommates. Sharpies are the basic tools of life for me and serve for sooo many fantastic projects and drawings. Along with my prismacolors they are my favorite tools.

I love where these illustrations are going. I hope to be known one day for these. And not just be a starving artist.

the work station.
messy.
yes workable. because I make it work.

I will have a better set up when I graduate. For now, I must make do with their lovely dorm environment I am in and just go with the creative spurts I receive!

oh! and if anyone knows of some good websites for making prints or artwork, please share the wealth of knowledge!

anyone can be glamorous

daily melody: Black Eyed Peas "Outta My Head"

My piece is complete.
Please, excuse the poor, poor photography here...

mixed media

The mixed media ended up being a combination of matt board, cut wood, a photograph, bedazzles, bits of a broken mirror, and wax.

Je t'adore.

I think I'm going to my good friend Kari's advice and submit it to the student show [Cazenovia College Juried Student Exhibition]. I'm itching to spray paint gold some more things I have about and seeing what else I can conjure up.

Also I am quite excited to sport my new dress that was a fabulous find at TJMaxx. Figuring today was the last possible day for senior portraits to be in the yearbook [lame college blahblahblah...]I made the decision to rock something funky, non-traditional, and more myself.

I had a lot of fun wearing this around this afternoon, getting photographed in it for senior photos and just kind of being flashy. Quite a bit of compliments were said, and it made me feel really lovely that I could stand out for something flashy and fun that isn't skanky or classless.

Oh..and I just totally cleaned out my inbox on my school email. It feels oh-so good!

creating cranium

daily melody: Le Tigre "Deceptacon" [as played by Jem]

I cannot papier mache worth it. It's pathetic. I need someone to properly teach me again. Almost as odd as having to watch a youtube tutorial on how to make a newspaper hat. I'
m now a newspaper party hat pro.

Currently working on a project that is due this week after a wonderful, and very grateful spurt of inspiration and ideas!

here is a sneak peek:

a found photograph

color!venetian bird masks

I have to say my thanks for the inspirational found photograph that my good friend Angie let me have from her collection. I thought they were neat then, and I still do now.

I'm literally just letting my creativity and sense of artistic accomplishment keep me awak and going. It just turned 2am again and I'm tired, just itching to construct and concept amongst a roll of toilet paper for my drippy nose.

If the finished product comes out as imagined, it will be great!

[sidenote: I realize how awful I've become of not showing finished images of work and what not...lame. I really need a new camera of my own again.]

in sickness and heavy reading material

daily melody: The Centurions "Zed's Dead Baby"

My cold took a liking to me so much, that it decided to hop onto the next available opportunity to see me again. I was not given prior notice of this visitation.

I'm sick [again].

Contradictory and foolish it may be I am drinking a redbull and eating the remnants of a theatre style snow caps and a couple fun size hershey's krackel bars. I plan on re-reading my aesthetics reading [dense,dense,dense...yet so intellectually moving]. I have been drinking orange juice, and I plan on wearing warm sweaters and scarves to keep me warm. Eskimo-in' it up with this freezing weather!

do it - do it - do it now

daily melody: Hot Chip "Ready For The Floor"

motivation...motivation...oh where could you be?
my brain is becoming dull
becoming misguided
beguiled
dry
without passion.

I am not a sand dollar.

I have big plans for tomorrow! I am going to make myself become motivated and work, work, produce!

things I have planned:

going to the local hardware store
purchase plywood and varnish
begin car** piece
take a walk in the woods with a good friend
collect twigs and branches for project
sketch for graphic forms to cement idea
set up my new small bit of studio space on campus

I intend to accomplish this all....whether that becomes an actuality or not will be another story. I'm going to see if I can burrow one of my roommate's cameras for documentation for a fun productive day.

Maybe I'll go buy some wine in the afternoon and treat myself.
It will be Friday...

**car piece:

I recently became inspired by an older white car in passing in Syracuse at the recently mentioned apartment's driveway. I became very taken aback by the color of the car, and how people deal with the color white.

My plan for this is creating a collage/decoupage with a white car and placing it in an angelic, blessed atmosphere...using found materials, mixing 2D and 3D objects...putting a creation of man on a very high pedestal.

Of course...it isn't anything we do not do already...

On a side note, I have itching, itching, itching to get my tattoo! It will be a tentative first, but I have been patiently waiting, debating, and rationalizing this decision; and how it will affect my professional future. I would also like to add...how my family will take it as well (...conservatives...). I think this spring will mark a very good time and I think it will be within the next couple of months.

I'm scared, but very ready to be permanently painted as a living work of art.

drippy is so fascinating

daily melody: Boards of Canada "Everything You Do Is A Balloon"

Some current drawings:

I started this drawing on a piece of paper I found in the apartment of my boyfriend's friend's. They live on the 3rd of 4th floor of this huge and very old apartment on Westcott in Syracuse. It's very inspiring sitting in the very cozy and open attic (which is their apartment) and feeling "at home." If you could picture an old cozy ski lodge's attic with fireplace, darkened wood, and open rafters then you might picture what I'm speaking of.

A pen drawing of an unfinished piece, which will be finished shortly when I come back to it. Thought I would at least present some bit of art I've been working on, though it's usually less than more.

And this is a close up of another drawing still in progress.
A personal take on "Little Red Riding Hood."

I really like the "drippy" look I've been creating, almost like a motif. I really enjoy creating series with piece, or just trying to connect works together that could work individually and as a whole (mainly in drawings...).

I'm itching to work large scale, if finances permit, to create a large scale painting of a girl with very drippy eyes. There's something alluring about soft drips...and something calming.

I'm trying to keep this train on the tracks of convention and stay focused with school and with my art.

I'm trying to live and create without the heavy reliance of our currency.

I'm growing.

edit:

It's 2-something am in the morning. I just finished my laundry at the 24 hours laundromat and still need to dreafully fold it. I find myself somewhere in between "I'm getting sleepy" and "I want to stay up and do stuff"...

i'm on a quest to find myself

daily melody: Yeah Yeah Yeah's "Heads Will Roll"

I have been thinking about my blog and have come to the conclusion that it is a poor representation of who I am, is a representation of interests I have and other inspiratio
n from those around me.

I'm not a stay at home mom who just happens to be organically sound, has swell taste, and is totally crafty to the core. I'm not some ultra savvy chick who can sew up crazy creations on the internet. Maybe some day one of those will be a possibility in my life, but as of now they aren't. Stop fooling yourself, Caroline, and be you!

I think I may do some re-organizing of my blog to better tailor how I am. I want to be more real. Down to my self and channeling what makes me tick. Things may get odd. Things may get peculiar. But that's how life goes.

I need to find me again.

[insert name] x 500

daily melody: Empire of the Sun "Walking on a Dream"

Over the past two days I've been trying to construct a project for one of my classes, graphic forms. Trying to formulate concepts with materials that I couldn't rely to get my
hands on was tough...

I decided to paint while trying to keep the similar line work and staying true to my pieces. My friend Tesla said it the best, "paint requires more patience." And it serves true with trying to go large scale and having to switch between acrylic paint and the ink I so long to do completely. Of course it would require too much time, so paint is needed for the smart.

It's not done, but this is is so far.

I have drawn SOO much inspiration from this one naturally deteriorating deer skull.
I love it!

I am experimenting with my subject matter and growing darker in my illustrations. Whether this is a shift in maturity or just taste, is to be questioned. Either way it's amazing to be able to produce such fantastic work as of lately (and especially being presently sick....) and having it portray so much!

There is also a fishbowl filled with lime gelatin in the mini fridge with cut out piece of my name 500 times. It was all part of the assignment and the "incantation inspired" way I took it.

drawing a day: deux

daily melody: The Mars Volta "L'Via L'Viaquez

Before I went on a much anticipated art field trip
with two of my classes to see the various galleries in Syracuse, I began to produce this guy.
He isn't complete yet, but almost.
Where do you ask did the inspiration come from?

Well, my roommate and wonderful friend Christina went back home for the weekend a bit ago and asked around with her hunting friends back in Maryland. The result was the little beauty, which I have this odd love for.

I thought I would also show some of my in-progress ones that I mentioned yesterday. I don't know what to do with some of them yet.... I get so hung up on them or get a new idea that i just kind of cast them aside to finish another piece.

lady gaga inspired.

I need to touch her up a bit. I didn't like that she an unflawed face, but then after some alterations and decision making....the end result was making her look a bit too old then what I was trying to create. Still in progress.

Margot Tenebaum inspired.

Love love love love love The Royal Tenebaums! I was watching it AGAIN and really had the urge to draw my own take on the wonderfully attractive Margot. Still in progress.

And a Victorian inspired piece.
I love drawing crazy messy huge up-do's with lots of detail on the hair. Still in progress.

More on the way!

a drawing a day!

daily melody: Violent Femmes "Kiss Off"

Well....I've been hiding and I had no original intentions of doing so.

The good news is I've been producing some fabulous work that makes me want to spend endless days drawing and producing these ideas that have been a continual flow from my head. Inspiration comes and goes with me...which I don't know is like everyone else....? When I'm dry it sucks, but when I'm a kick I could just go for days until all my creativity is washed up.

I also decided that with my creativity and the great work I've been producing, I thought about producing a drawing [a finished drawing not a shat one...] each day for the month of February. This would a little push for myself to produce drawings just for me, and not because they are meant as a project for a class. I get so swept up in life that I forget to stop and just let myself go and create something that purely brings me joy.

February is my month to create my illustrations that are representation of me.

Here are some of the works I've created thus far:

I have three drawings in-progress scattered about the floor and my desk in front of my laptop has prismacolors all around.

I couldn't be happier!
