...it still drips...

current tune: Gotan Project "Epoca"

My living space is my studio space...my art is put everywhere....whether put aside on tables or open sketchbooks sporadically placed about... or torn sheets of drawing paper tacked to the walls as references and/or inspiration. I really am quite thankful for my little Nikon so that I can share all the drawings and things I create or paint...on.

some work:

in-progress drawing started a couple days ago.
The original crow drawing that inspired me to create the prismacolor illustration that I had made into postcards for the opening of my senior exhibition.A collage piece created over this past summer of computer chips dancing with dollar signs [you get the hint]. Some of the collaged pieces need to be tended to...finished, but needs mending.

As a project for one of my courses [Graphic Forms] this past spring 2010 semester we were instructed to choose a specific location of wall along a long and narrow corridor down in the basement of one of the buildings near a pretty neglected studio/classroom. We were to turn our everyday or personal doodles into a mural without a limitation or expectation of 2-dimension or three. The basis of this course was very open, very liberal, and pushed the cognitive abilities of what it means to draw. I loved the course...and of course the professor, who like other genuinely caring people, has been very caring and wonderful during this year despite good and bad circumstances.

The entirety of the corridor [as well as the stairwell] were covered with various interpretations and meanings of personal doodles, likes, and interests that were 2D, 3D, and both. I chose to go with the progression and "flow" of how my illustrations have coming. I began sketching rapidly, questioning myself [while stepping back and forward numerous times for better looks and angles] as I drew straight from my mind right on the spot. I didn't know what the specific subject matter qould entail, but I was ok with that. Through the course of this year I have the advantageous opportunities to try different methods of working on my art and projects; straying from my past routine of sketching to death before creating.

My lovely Roma-gypsy-was the end result.
Spinning her continually growing purple hair into spools of thread.
Unfortunately, by the time I got back down to the Coleman studio and the corridor...a pile of shit had accumulated in front of it. I'll just have to bother my lovely photo love, Shanna for her photos of the mural.I was told Roma was Ukrainian for gypsy, though spelled as poma instead. Even if I am incorrect, she is still my mystical Ukrainian gypsy woman.

Lastly, I been diligently painting away at my door tonight-begining the drips and getting ever so closer to completion! Nicholas generously moved "my canvas" up into the apartment so I could keep with the creative flow into the night, despite the sunshine. I've been working on every bit of it outside up until this point. I'm hoping to have both sides finished by Monday morning.

progress [to date!]:

My ultimate goal is to have the door painted, finished, and set to be tied to the roof of my Merc to be transported to its outdoor space. I need to get my butt moving and finish this piece and the 2+ large boxes of pink plastic lawn flamingos that still need to be "teared up".

can't stop creating.

won't stop being an artist.

p.s. - happy 30th birthday, Pac-man!

pink isn't dead...

current tune: Lady Gaga "Poker Face" (Dave Aude Remix)

A_r_T___U_P_d_a_T_e !!

Photographed and represented through progress:
I am a girl who has discovered the beauty of spray paint early on when painting everyday objects funky colors with a smooth even coat. This little bit began when I was in elementary/middle school when I found out my father had some and would spontaneously decide to re-color our flower pots blue with a gold trim, or a sketchbook cover gold, when I did not need it for a school project.

My father introduced me to the beauty of adding a bit of color when I needed help with school projects...and I do believe one of the first I can recall was an Iroquois longhouse I constructed on a piece of plywood. A Native American project was expected for every 4th grader in the elementary school I went in to help in the learning of the great people who lived in New York State before me...and who treated it better as well.

My father helped strip bark off wood my grandfather had given to us from his woodlot up north for the covering of the longhouse. He also assisted in the imperative "realistic" dirt and grass coloring of the plywood as the base for this project [and how I would carry down the street to school to present] since I was so young. The spray paint was perfect for the objection we were aiming for, and it was a great diagram-even set with my plastic Disney Pocahontas figures to finish it off.

To this day I love my spray paint for covering the everyday objects I needed colored and personified. The above photographs are one piece to the outdoor sculpture I'm creating while I finish creating tears for the 32 flamingos I had ordered to my apartment, and the larger-than-life size cake I have yet to make [not edible of course]. My aim for this piece is to create an outdoor space where this pink painted drippy door is plopped in the earth [to serve as an entryway] to the comical interaction of drippy crying flamingos [mainly on french bonbons created by styrofoam cubes covered in plaster] carrying saucers of cake slices from a giant drippy cake within a grassy space between two buildings [South Campus A & B].

Any and all ideas or comments are welcomed for this piece!

bonne voyage, m'amie!

current tune: Suzanne Vega "Tom's Diner"

The last two days have been almost a blur between having the hardest trouble getting my carcass out of bed in the morning, work, starting a new babysitting job, spending time and seeing a good friend off, making cards and getting packages and envelopes set to be mailed, and working on my art. Sadly, the art aspect has been getting the short end of the stick due to sunlight [painting and spraying my door in the driveway] and being guiltily lethargic at times.

I get veered off the road I'm going down sooo easily when other "important" life-things come up...employment, groceries; etc.
...more art, more art, more art!
I write to-do lists, post-its on my laptop...but I still tend to wander and get a day behind.
What are some effective [and successful!] methods for a busy day on a full-mind with little time?

Yesterday after work I stopped to see a very good friend for her last night in town after a 5+ year stay in the same apartment [something I have yet to feel in my life...]. Her abode is an artwork in itself and it is a lovely, comfortable, and charming place where good conversation, art, shenanigans with her Bunzilla [her grey rabbit], and adventures are had. Though our relationship is still new, I am so thankful Miss Tesla Nicola is in my life and I wouldn't change any bit of her for the world!

Tesla, is also a very talented artist who works with installations [big-small], paints, illustrates, and has collaborated with a close friend for numerous preformance pieces. I admire her for her outlook, artistic style, and her beauty to find unique truths.

Her poetry and art adorns the walls. No space is left without meaning.
The charming abode and Miss Tesla with a bit of the beautiful pink strapless Besty Johnson dress I acquired that night from my friend and my mulberries.Dress up in the children's section of the Everson Museum during some time to spare between exhibitions and seminar [March-ish time]pretty desserts
...and the beginings of me going blonde about two months ago. oh my!
A little group dinner thrown together by our friend Kari at a quaint Scottish restuarant down a bit from our school.

I love finding people that you just click with, simply and beautifully.
Like many people I have few friends who I would call true; they make it worth keeping in contact with...and even worth the steep gas prices for trips to visit!
eeeeek!

a little catsup in your converse

current tune: Green Jello/Green Jelly "Little Pig, Little Pig"

Despite the fact that I'm currently out of the conventional sit-in-the-classroom-and-learn aspect of school, until my one summer course, I still have no clue where my time runs to. I'm sure it goes to a nice place with cocktails and good conversation. At some point in my life, I will join it and finally find peace with the occupation I've fallen into over the years of always running late...like the white rabbit.

I have worked on some illustrations, stripped, sanded, and painted both sides of the found door for my outdoor installation piece, cooked, cleaned, and adventured.

One of my possessions got the boot after 6+ years of high school hallways, grassy fields, camping trips, shows, all over Europe and back, and a whole lot in between that I'm sure I'm forgetting. They were my first pair of Converse out of the two pairs I personally own [the other lovelies are Mulberry]. It's a bittersweet ending to a pair of shoes that made me feel and look cool whether I was in the United States or backpacking in Germany with some of the best friends I have come across.

You were a great pair of shoes, Converse, with your classic simple form of canvas and rubber. My feet got wet and were very cold during many a time, but you always complimented any outfit I adorned-even my first fashion show when I modeled my own garments [freshman year fashion design major before switching to studio art]. You were good to me and I love you.

R.I.P Converse Chucks

Old, stained, and worn with love.
I could see my socks through the bottom! [for longer than I should have...I'm sure...]
I'm sure you can relate to any pair of trust favored footwear...no matter what they are. It's interesting how long I could not bear with parting with my silly shoes that could barely constitute as shoes...becoming so attached to the familiar and comfortable...despite puddles.
Yummy omelets and dishes were cooked and devoured.

I also just picked up a new Raw Foods cookbook at Barnes & Nobles for Nicholas that I'm eager to try out! I'm really excited to test out some of delicious recipes [some again- zucchini spaghetti!] with the coming of hotter days and nights and less stovetop/oven cooking.
Some simple tasty breakfast of cheesy omelett with onions, tomatoes, and assorted spices with mustard.

Nicholas has found that when you mix up your eggs with milk for an omelet, add a little dab of EEVO [Rachel Ray lingo for extra virgin olive oil] to the mix before cooking. We've been using a bit ever since for a fluffier, and more moist omelets!

Now that I finally have my little beauty [digital camera] I need to remember to actually take more photos...cooking, recipes, sketchbook illustrations, and my sculpture project!

happy tuesday!

graduation for those graduating

daily tune: Caribou 'Odessa"

Today is graduation. For Cazenovia College class of 2010, Syracuse University, and I'm sure many, many more colleges and universities all over the United States with similar academic years and dates scheduled to have their multidues of eager graduates to get their diplomas and get the fuck out.

I'm not one of them.

A little resentment and bitterness still comes up, but the other better feelings have been increasing that just make me think....oh well...what's done is done....and I am not like the others.

I'll be finishing up my BFA with one small summer course starting soon and that will be it! Yay!

Once that time finally comes, I will have the closure I've been searching so long for. But don't think I'm satisfied with the education that I received from the undergraduate college I chose in Central New York...hell no. I fully intend to pursue graduate work in sculpture....[the thought as of now...] in any state I choose to fit my liking, my art style, and my growth. I will not limit myself to the physical boundaries of New York State and will pursuit the arts wherever I am called to.

That's all.

happy saturday and happy graduation!

...and though I have resentment about my own graduation I do not hinder the love, gratitude, adoration, and respect to my lovely friends, and fellow colleagues who have taken classes with me, drank with me in the dive small town bar, and shared the many experiences!

I love you all, and I wish nothing but the best and most unique and creative adventures for you!

If only I found this hat sooner....

i like lawn ornaments

daily tune: Beirut "Postcards From Italy"

Oh hello! I've just completed another spontaneous-blogging-hiatus, or when my reality becomes too busy and imperative to allow my blog to receive proper attention. A lot of that, might I add, has to do with being lethargic and not having a camera.....yet!

Good news! I FINALLY ordered one! I am patiently waiting for the little aqua green nikon I ordered so i can begin snapping away photos! Plus, my laptop had been sent away to be repaired [before my warranty is up!] so there was no utilizing the scanner either...sigh.
I have dozens of news drawings and my new project [to finish up my sculpture course].

I just ordered 22 more flamingos to total 32 - to paint and create an outdoor sculptural piece.
Between the fashion and studio art key buildings of my college.
